Avening Playing Field
Supported by Avening Parish Council
What is happening?
Our playing field is the valuable green heart in the middle of the village which provides a tranquil setting for young children to
play, an area for everyone to enjoy informal sports and paths for dog walking and cycling. With health and fitness being big
national issues it is important that we as a Parish Council provide the best possible facilities for the community. Over recent
years the recreation ground has become tired and worn out—the previous Playing Field Committee made a great start and
replaced some of the play equipment, but our ambitious plans to provide better team and individual sporting facilities did not
receive enough support to proceed. We are therefore pleased to share with you our revised plans for improvements to the
area which we are confident will regenerate the area for the next generation.
When will it happen?
The work will be undertaken in prioritised phases as funding becomes available. Phase 1 is already underway, with the access
ramp and protective fence being completed in 2019.
The Parish Council have taken account of public ideas and feedback to produce a plan that delivers a
recreation area useable by all sections of the community. Safety is paramount, and phase 1 will introduce a
new fence for a dog-free enclosed zone where small children can play happily without the risk of
wandering off. We will renovate existing benches, and also introduce additional seating and picnic benches
around the site.
The wooden shelter will be improved/replaced and could provide an outdoor classroom space.
As additional funds are secured, future phases will add additional play equipment, and an upgraded
cycle/walking track around the perimeter, which will link to the new access slope from Sunground.
The levelling of the playing surface will be less extensive than previously proposed, but with better drainage
and fit for purpose grass, it will open up lots of possibilities for informal play. The work won’t impact the
sledging hill that everyone loves!
Ongoing maintenance costs will be minimal, and will focus on keeping the equipment in a safe and useable
state.
Crowdfunding / Calor Grant Application for Avening Play Park
Zipwire
Our Crowdfunder Project is now live! and can be accessed during the Supporting Period
(4 June – 16 July) through the following link:
https://communityfund.calor.co.uk/avening-playing-field
The Parish Council has applied for a grant of £5,000 from the 2020 Calor Gas
Rural Community Fund to seek funding towards a new zipwire for the Play
Park. The total amount we need is £8,000. Calor is working with Crowdfunder
Ltd and will use the amount of public support received against the crowdfunder
project to determine which projects go forward as finalists. This will be done
on a points system – 1 point for a “like” or “share” and 10 points for each
pledge (but note that each user may only support a project once).
Please visit our Calor project and click on one of the buttons at the foot of the
page – either “like/share” or if you are feeling generous “pledge” to help us get
points for our grant application and raise funds for the zipwire. The more points
the better, so please also share the link to friends and relatives.
Many Thanks
