Avening Playing Field
Avening Playing Field is going to have a complete makeover!
Phase 1
Steve Harris (Chair)
Paul Hancock (Treasurer)
Tony Slater (upgrade project)
Supported by Avening Parish Council
Our   centrally   located   general   purpose   playing   field   has   become   very   tired,   and   the children's     play     equipment     has     reached     end     of     life,     with     much     of     it     being decommissioned.      Following   extensive   consultation   with   the   village   by   the   Parish Council   (PC)   and   Playing   Field   Association   (APFA),   a   strategic   plan   has   been   agreed for a major upgrade of the facilities to provide a sporting and leisure hub for all ages.   The    first    phase    is    due    to    commence    in    March,    and    will    replace    of    all    the    play equipment   with   modern   pieces   for   infants   and   juniors.      The   budget   for   this   is   around £21k,   with   the   money   being   raised   by   events,   small   grants,   an   initial   contribution from the football field proceeds, and support from the PC. The   next   phase   is   being   led   by   the   PC,   and   will   require   structural   work   on   the   field   to accommodate   an   all-weather,   multi-sport   playing   surface   and   running   track.      At   the same   time,   we   will   create   a   new   woodland   walking   trail,   a   mountain   bike   track,   hard standing   for   off   road   car   parking,   and   provide   adult   gym   equipment   around   the   site.     As   well   as   providing   a   health   and   well-being   benefit   to   the   whole   village,   we   already have   interest   from   local   football   and   rugby   teams   to   use   the   facilities   for   training purposes,   which   would   provide   an   income   to   cover   ongoing   maintenance   and   fund further improvements. The   work   can   be   phased   depending   on   available   budgets,   but   would   be   more   cost effective    and    less    disruptive    if    completed    all    at    once.        We    already    have    partial funding   in   place   for   the   c£80k   project   from   the   sale   proceeds   of   the   football   field, additional   pledges   from   the   PC,   and   other   local   authority   sources.      We   are   therefore applying for additional grant funding to complete the financial package.
