Adopt a Pump
Our pumps have been adopted The Calcutt Pumps The 12 Calcutt pumps were paid for by Mr Calcutt, and installed by public subscription to Avening Water Works in 1900. The then chair of the PCC, Albert Hinder, turned the taps on and then took ownership of them for the village. The pumps were fed by a reservoir off Longmans Lane, and villagers obtained their water from the pumps until 1946. Thanks to everyone who showed an interest in adopting our pumps - there will be a small presentation at the PC meeing on 17th July New Inn Lane Just outside of the Bell Inn, this pump is in a moderate state, but needs a good rub down and a fresh coat of paint. Woodstock Lane bottom Just outside of the Social Club, this pump is in a vey poor state. It needs a thor- ough scrubbing, and then needs to be painted. Woodstock Lane, top Located where the lane forks, this pump is in a excellent condition, and is almost com- plete. It needs a good rub down and a fresh coat of paint. Pound Hill Again, in quite a poor state, this pump needs a thorough scrubbing, and then needs to be painted. Point Road this pump is in quite a good state, and needs a good rub down and a fresh coat of High Street Probably our most important pump, both by location, and that it is almost intact. A little light weed- ing, a rub down and a re - paint is all this needs. Tetbury Hill This pump is quite rusty, as it hasn’t been painted. A full service is needed!
